9/5/2010 Andre Brown, RB Brown was waived by the Giants.

Analysis: The fourth-round draft pick missed his rookie season after tearing his Achilles' tendon in training camp. He looked good at times in camp this year but did not do a good job on kickoff returns.
9/5/2010 Rhett Bomar, QB Bomar was waived by the Giants.

Analysis: Bomar lost his job when the Giants acquired veteran quarterback Sage Rosenfels from Minnesota. Rosenfels previously backed up gunslinger Brett Favre with the Vikings. "Bomar's progress has been outstanding,'' Coughlin said. "He's worked very, very hard. He did receive a lot of attention, he did make progress and he did show us what he can do."
9/5/2010 Jay Alford, DT Alford was waived by the Giants.

Analysis: A third-round draft pick in 2007, Alford was an up-and-coming linemen until his injury in a preseason game against Chicago last summer. His most memorable play as a Giant was a sack of Tom Brady on the final Patriots' series in the Super Bowl, helping nail down the title.
9/5/2010 Derek Anderson, QB Anderson will be the starter for the two-time defending NFC West champions. The news comes after Matt Leinart was released Saturday.

Analysis: The 6-foot-5 former Oregon State quarterback has a strong arm but has struggled at times with his accuracy. He made the Pro Bowl after leading the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007 but lost his job to Brady Quinn last season.
9/5/2010 Dre' Bly, CB The Detroit Lions have cut Bly.

Analysis: Bly became expendable because cornerback Alphonso Smith was acquired from Denver for tight end Dan Gronkowski.
9/5/2010 Al Afalava, S The Bears have waived Afalava after cuts were made at their complex in Lake Forest, Ill.

Analysis: A sixth-round pick last year, Afalava started 13 games as a rookie but became expendable after the Bears acquired Chris Harris and drafted Major Wright.
9/5/2010 Willie Parker, RB Parker became the odd man out in the Washington Redskins' three-way veteran running back competition Saturday when he was released as the team set its 53-man roster a week before the start of the regular season.

Analysis: Parker was among 21 players cut before the 6 p.m. deadline. Parker never showed the burst that earned him the name ``Fast Willie'' when he was in his prime with Pittsburgh from 2005-07.
9/5/2010 Jeff Otah, T Panthers GM Marty Hurney said he "didn't know at this point" if Otah will play Week 1 at the New York Giants.

Analysis: The starting right tackle is being hampered by a knee injury.
9/5/2010 Ray Fisher, CB On Saturday, the Colts trimmed their roster to 53 by waiving seventh-round draft pick Fisher.

Analysis: The Indiana alum was a feel-good story, but was not good enough to make the AFC champions' 53-man roster.
9/5/2010 Antwan Barnes, LB The Eagles acquired Barnes from Baltimore for an undisclosed pick in the 2011 draft on Saturday.

Analysis: Barnes has played in 38 games in three seasons and has five sacks, including three in his last five games in 2009. "We always had our eye on Barnes, ever since he came into the draft (in 2007)," GM Howie Roseman said. "He's got rare speed, and it's hard to find guys who can consistently get pressure on the quarterback. And it goes back to our philosophy here, that we're going to make sure our defense is able to get pressure on the quarterback."
9/5/2010 Derrick Burgess, DE Burgess was released by the New England Patriots in a surprising move Saturday.

Analysis: Burgess started six of his 16 games with five sacks in his eighth pro season last year. He has 52 sacks in his career, starting with three seasons in Philadelphia and four in Oakland. There had been speculation that Burgess, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract in May, might retire but he didn't mention that after his first practice this summer.
9/5/2010 Max Jean-Gilles, G The Eagles have released Jean-Gilles.

Analysis: The Eagles did not complete a deal that sent Stacy Andrews to Seattle until after the 6 p.m. Eastern deadline for reducing their roster to 53 players, so they were forced to release the guard. The move was not a blunder, however. Jean-Gilles, who started six games last year, is now an unrestricted free agent, but GM Howie Roseman said the Eagles plan to sign him on Sunday. Because he's a vested veteran, Jean-Gilles is not subject to the NFL's waiver claim procedure.
9/5/2010 Sam Aiken, WR Aiken was released by the New England Patriots in a surprising move Saturday.

Analysis: New England's special teams captain spent the past two seasons with the Patriots after five with the Buffalo Bills. He had a career-high 20 receptions last season.
9/5/2010 Brandon McGowan, S The Patriots placed McGowan on season-ending injured reserve with a chest injury.

Analysis: The safety started 11 games last season, so this certainly hurts New England's secondary.
9/5/2010 Jarrad Page, S The Kansas City Chiefs traded Page to the New England Patriots on Saturday.

Analysis: Page, who made 39 starts until falling into disfavor with coach Todd Haley last year, was traded for an undisclosed draft selection. He sat out the entire offseason and preseason and signed a letter of tender on Friday.
9/4/2010 Chris Morris, C Morris was cut by the Raiders on Saturday.

Analysis: Morris started 10 games at center and guard for Oakland in 2009.
9/4/2010 Justin Tryon, CB The Colts have acquired Tryon, sending an undisclosed draft pick to the Washington Redskins to bolster an injury-hit secondary.

Analysis: Indianapolis has had six defensive backs go on season-ending injured reserve. Tryon was the Redskins' fourth-round pick in 2008 out of Arizona State. He has played in 29 career games, making one start, and had 27 tackles and one interception in 2009.
9/4/2010 Levi Brown, QB Brown was cut by the Bills on Saturday.

Analysis: The quarterback from Troy University was the first of Buffalo's two seventh-round draft picks. Brown was fourth on the Bills depth chart. He was 15 of 30 for 130 yards with two interceptions three preseason games. Bills coach Chan Gailey is scheduled to discuss the team's cuts later Saturday.
9/4/2010 Elvis Dumervil, LB Dumervil's season is officially sacked, as the Broncos placed him on injured reserve Saturday.

Analysis: The Denver Broncos had been holding out hope the league's top sacker would make a quicker than anticipated recovery from a torn chest muscle and return to action in December. Dumervil, however, posted a message on his Twitter account Friday night that confirmed an NFL.com report he'll be going on injured reserve, ending his season.
9/4/2010 Fili Moala, DT Indianapolis police say Moala has been arrested for driving while intoxicated, public intoxication and speeding.

Analysis: The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says Moala was stopped at 2:31 a.m. Friday after an officer noticed his vehicle speeding. A police report says the 25-year-old Moala admitted to an officer that he had "five or six drinks" at a club.
